about the book

It was during our meetings as we talked of old times, our escapades and the beginning of our Hot Rod Club, that I realized how profound an effect we had on each other. I listened to each one relating an event and how it affected him, I also sensed we were a part of history. Californian historians called Culver City, "the city where Hot Rodding began". We were in the right place at the right time. Our hangout, Piccadilly's drive-in, was considered the number one gathering spot for hot rodders and custom cars on the west coast. The Igniters of Culver City, is the account of a group of boys, who started hanging around with each other in the ninth grade, how we met and how we helped each other through the difficult times after World War II and how this companionship changed our lives. We all shared a passion for cars and the camaraderie we developed during these years has developed into lasting friendships. After fifty plus years, we still meet twice a year to rekindle this friendship. This is our story.

about the author

Marvin Gelbart lives in Las Vegas, where he spends his spare time writing novels. After one of our get-togethers, he sat down and wrote the story of the Igniters. He wrote this story to show how profound our friendships can be while a teenager and how deeply these friendships affect us throughout our lives.
